Put your marriage on the calendar!

Life after Labor Day brings new routines and a more structured schedule.  For parents fall brings busy days and weeks full of homework, after-school activities, and weekend sports.  And for all adults the schedule of church activities, Bible study groups, and community service starts again.  Rhythms often change come autumn.  I want to encourage you to consider building in time to strengthen and refresh your marriage in the midst of other things that would fill your schedule.

I am speaking this month at a Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group in Tacoma on The Five Love Languages identified by Dr. Gary Chapman.  We all have a primary way that we receive love: acts of service, quality time, words of affirmation, physical touch, or gifts.  Do you know your love language? ~ the way you most perceptively receive love from your spouse?  Can you accurately name the way your partner “hears” your love for them most tangibly?  If you don’t know the answer to these questions I would encourage you and your mate to take the free quiz offered here.  If your mate isn’t interested, see if you can figure out what communicates love to them most effectively.  And then make some time to put your knowledge into action.  It may take scheduling.  Do it now before your calendar fills up.  It may take effort ~ communicating love in the way our spouse can receive it may not come naturally to you.  Do it anyway!  The investment you make in your relationship will be worth every minute, action, effort, word, touch, or penny.
