Hillary Banham, MS, LMHC

I enjoy working with people both individually and as families to understand their current challenges and strengths. I view coming in to see a counselor as an opportunity to create a shared, safe space. This is a time and place for you to reflect on who you are, where you have come from and where you would like to go. This may include processing past experiences and exploring how you can move forward from these experiences in a healthy way. It may involve working together to identify an overall goal for you and outlining specific steps toward reaching that goal.

Using a variety of approaches and techniques based on the needs of each individual or family, I draw from cognitive behavioral and strengths-based approaches. I am trained in cognitive behavioral therapy plus (CBT+) which can be used to address anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and behavioral issues in children and adolescents. In addition, I am trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT) for children, adolescents and families impacted by trauma. I am trained in motivational interviewing (MI) for helping individuals identify their sources of motivation for change.

Holding a biblical Christian worldview, I see individuals as both physical and spiritual beings. I view life as a journey and am willing to explore where you have been and where you are headed on your personal journey whatever your worldview may be.

I have counseled for several years at Catholic Community Services’ Children’s Mental Health programs in Snohomish and Whatcom Counties. I have counseled at the counseling training clinic at Western Washington University which provides individual and family counseling services to the community. I earned a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Western Washington University and Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Comparative Literature from the University of Washington.
